A hydraulic hose is the flexible conduit that transfers high-pressure fluid to every loader, steering cylinder, and implement on a modern farm. This component is built with a synthetic rubber inner tube, one or more braids of high-tensile steel wire for reinforcement, and a durable synthetic rubber outer cover to resist abrasion, weather, and chemicals.

Hydraulic hoses are classified by rigorous industry standards. The most common in North America is SAE J517, which defines standard types like 100R1 (one-wire braid) and 100R2 (two-wire braid) for general-purpose applications, and 100R17 for compact, high-pressure systems. A modern alternative is the ISO 18752 standard, which classifies hoses based on their resistance to pressure impulses, ensuring a long service life even in severe applications.

For the highest performance, look for models like the Parker 451TCGates M2T MegaFlex, or Eaton GH781, which offer working pressures up to 4,000 PSI. Premium designs, such as the Aeroquip by Danfoss GH888, use a novel composite inner tube to achieve pressure ratings of over 5,000 PSI with the flexibility of a two-wire hose, making them ideal for cramped engine compartments. For applications requiring extreme chemical resistance, thermoplastic hoses (SAE 100R7/R8) are also available, offering a lightweight and compact solution.
